YOUTH ROWING

Rowing is a pure team sport. In a boat, working together is the difference between having a good row and having a great one. At PVRC, the bonds that form in a boat continue on land. Join in grade 7 to 12 to try rowing. It may stay with you for life.

PROGRAMS

Private lessons

By appointment, mid-spring to early November

Whether you're new to rowing or an experienced athlete looking to refine their stroke, our coaches can help you improve and work toward your rowing goals. This program provides three 60-minute lessons for one or two people, in either one- or two-person sculling boats. Sessions are arranged at a time that you and the coach agree on, typically outside of our normal programming hours. Use of club boats, oars, and on-water supervision by a coach in a safety launch are included.

$199 for 1; $299 for 2

Youth Novice Rowing

March 2 - May 30

9th grade and above, no experience required

Mon/Wed/Fri 3:30pm - 5:30pm

An introduction to the sport of competitive rowing for students entering grade 9 or above (8th graders considered at coach's discretion). This program meets 3 times per week and is for students with little or no high school rowing experience. Functional movement, general conditioning, technique, rowing terminology, safety, and equipment handling are the main components of this program.

Athletes are expected to attend 90% of practices unless otherwise discussed with the Head Coach. Although this is not a racing program, the session is geared toward readying athletes to join our competitive high school team in subsequent seasons. Athletes may be offered opportunities to race in local events toward the end of the season, at the coach's discretion. Regatta fees, travel expenses, offsite facility usage fees, and racing uniforms are not included in the program price and will be assessed separately.

Middle School Rowing

March 31 - May 30

7th or 8th grade, no experience required

Tues/Wed/Thurs 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM

This recreational program is for youth in grades 7 and 8 who are either a beginner with no experience, or for those who have rowed before. The focus of this program will be on learning and strengthening the understanding of fundamental rowing concepts, developing basic bodyweight strength and a healthy cardiovascular system, and of course, having fun!

Youth Varsity Rowing

March 2 - May 30

Two seasons of coached rowing or coach approval

Prerequisites:

Mon-Fri 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM, plus weekend regattas

High school athletes with at least two seasons of previous novice rowing experience with the desire to train hard and compete at local and regional races are eligible to join this team (8th grade students considered at the coach's discretion). The focus for the season will be on developing technical proficiency, increasing aerobic and muscular endurance, habit formation, and team building. Athletes are expected to attend 90% of practices and 100% of regattas unless prior permission is obtained from the Head Coach. Regatta fees, travel expenses, offsite facility usage fees, and racing uniforms are not included in the program price and will be assessed separately. Payment of regatta fees is required by all participating racers.
