YOUTH ROWING

Rowing is a pure team sport. In a boat, working together is the difference between having a good row and having a great one. At PVRC, the bonds that form in a boat continue on land. Join in grade 7 to 12 to try rowing. It may stay with you for life.

PROGRAMS

FREE Indoor Introduction to Rowing

December 2 - March 2

No Experience; Youth grade 7-12, Adult age 18-99.

Saturdays 9am - 10am (subject to cancellation in bad weather)

Enjoy a FREE coached, indoor session learning the basics of rowing from our warm boathouse with a view of the river. Registration preferred; drop-ins welcome. Saturday, December 2 - Saturday, March 2.

Middle School Rowing

4/2/24 - 5/25/24

7th or 8th grade, no experience required

Tuesday, Thursday, 6p - 7:30p

This program is for youth in grades 7 and 8 who are either a beginner with no experience, or for those who have rowed before. The focus of this program will be on learning and strengthening the understanding of fundamental rowing concepts, developing basic bodyweight strength and a healthy cardiovascular system, and of course, having fun!

Save $100 off a second registration when you sign up for Middle School Rowing. NOTE: Adult Introduction to Rowing happens at the same time/place (but different coach) and is eligible for the $100 savings.

High School Competitive Rowing

3/4/24 to 5/25/24

Two seasons of coached rowing or Coach's approval.

Monday - Friday 3:30 PM - 5:30PM plus weekend regattas

Register by February 7 to save $50.

High school athletes with at least one season of previous rowing experience and the desire to train hard and compete at local and regional races are eligible to join this team. Focus for the season will be on developing technical proficiency, increasing aerobic and muscular endurance, habit formation, and team building. Athletes will be expected to attend most practices, and their participation will be assumed for all competitions. Mandatory Parent Meeting Tuesday, March 5 from 5:30pm to 6:00pm at the boathouse.

NOTE: From March 11 to mid-April the team is planning to row from Springfield College, for up to 4 weeks, weather dependent. These practices will start at 4pm and end at 6pm to allow more time for commuting.

Regatta fees, travel expenses, offsite facility usage fees, and racing uniforms are not included in the program price and will be assessed separately.

Middle School Competitive Rowing

3/5/24 - 5/25/24

One season of rowing

Tue-Fri (no Monday) 3:30pm - 5:30pm plus weekend regattas

Register by February 7 and save $50.

This program is for eighth-graders with at least one season of rowing experience who are ready to compete. Requires pre-approval by Head Coach (headcoach@pvriverfront.org).

Mandatory Parent Meeting Tuesday, March 5 from 5:30pm to 6:00pm at the boathouse.

Students entering grade 9 or above, come to PVRC for a new experience and some time on the river! This program is for high school aged students with little to no prior rowing experience. Functional movement, general conditioning, technique, rowing terminology, safety, equipment handling, and having fun are the main components of this program. Participants who complete this session may then try their hand at the competitive side of the sport with our High School Competitive racing team in subsequent seasons. Practice occurs at the same time as Varsity rowing - bring your friends! Save $100 off second registration (for another youth or adult Learn to Row, for example). Discount is taken at checkout.
