





YOUTH ROWING
Rowing is a pure team sport. In a boat, working together is the difference between having a good row and having a great one. At PVRC, the bonds that form in a boat continue on land. Join in grade 7 to 12 to try rowing. It may stay with you for life.

FREE Introductory Winter Session

A FREE intro session for anyone to try the activities offered at PVRC: dragon boating and rowing. A coach leads you through a one-hour indoor introduction to rowing-machine workouts and boathouse tour. Come any Saturday, sign a waiver, and you are ready to go. Come dressed for an indoor workout. NOTES: 1. Pre-registration is not required. 2. subject to cancellation due to weather; 3. PVRC bans single-use bottles so please bring a reusable water bottle for yourself to use. 4. If you love it, sign up for one of our indoor workout classes and keep coming all winter! Still deciding? Try another FREE session and bring a friend.

Middle School Spring Rowing
4/4/23 - 5/25/23
No Experience required, for grades 7, 8.

Middle School (grades 7, 8) athletes, try something new - come join the crew! Have fun, get fit, and enjoy the beauty of rowing on the Connecticut River with your friends this spring. No experience required. Evening practice. An indoor swim test will be administered.

High School Introduction to Rowing
4/3/23 - 5/26/23
9th grade, no experience required.

Students entering grade 9 or above, come to PVRC for a new experience and some time on the river! This program is for high school aged students with little to no prior rowing experience. Functional movement, general conditioning, technique, rowing terminology, safety, equipment handling, and having fun are the main components of this program. Participants who complete the Intro to Rowing program may then continue their rowing experience with our High School Rowing Club, or may try their hand at the competitive side of the sport with our High School Competitive racing team for subsequent seasons.

Youth Summer Racing
6/5/23-7/23/23
2 seasons of rowing or coach's permission; age 13+; desire to improve and compete!

Row with PVRC for 7 weeks of training, improving, and racing at 4 regattas in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Philadelphia, PA! Launch your summer with daily coached 2-hour on-water workouts from the Rockrimmon Boathouse on the Connecticut River in Springfield, MA. Summer racing is a great time to develop your race plan while trying new boats! Regatta, uniform, and travel fees are additional and will be calculated once registration is complete. Practice time changes from 3:30pm-5:30pm to 7am-9am starting 6/19. Planned regatta attendance: Shad Row 6/10 (Holyoke, MA); Derby Sweeps and Sculls 6/17 (Shelton, CT), Independence Day Regatta 6/30-7/2 (Philadelphia, PA), Cromwell Cup 7/23 (Cambridge, MA).

Youth SAFARI (Summer of Activity, Fun, And Rowing Instruction)
6/19-6/30, 7/3-7/14, 7/17-7/28
Age 12+, swimming ability or coach's permission, no rowing experience required

Come to the Rockrimmon Boathouse on the Connecticut River in Springfield this summer for a two week SAFARI (Summer of Activity, Fun, And Rowing Instruction)! If you are new to rowing, we'll teach you and your friends to row! Experienced rowers will row singles and team boats for fun, exercise, and to improve your rowing skills. We may even do some kayaking, "tubby rodeos," and creative racing! This session meets Monday-Friday, rain or shine. Subject to rescheduling based on minimum enrollment requirement.

Middle School Competitive Rowing
3/6/23 - 5/28/23
7th or 8th grade, one season of rowing experience, or one SAFARI summer session

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 3:30p-5:30p
Register by February 7 to save $50. This program is for athletes in grades 7 and 8 with at least one prior season of rowing experience who are interested in getting more involved with the sport. The goal of this program continue to build on the technical and conceptual foundations they have laid, while starting to learn the basics of training and competing in the sport. Athletes will gradually work on developing their physical fitness both in general and for rowing in particular, as well as hone their skills by learning and practicing more advanced technical concepts. Athletes will have the opportunity to put their new knowledge and skills to the test by competing at local and regional races throughout the fall. High School Competitive Rowing

Two seasons of coached rowing or Coach's approval.

Monday - Friday 3:30 PM - 5:30PM plus weekend regattas
Register by February 7 to save $50. High school athletes with at least one season of previous rowing experience and the desire to train hard and compete at local and regional races are eligible to join this team. Focus for the season will be on developing technical proficiency, increasing aerobic and muscular endurance, habit formation, and team building. Athletes will be expected to attend most practices, and their participation will be assumed for all competitions.
