Dear PVRC Parents and Rowers!

The main points of this email are

  • Once Holyoke Jack-Row-Lantern regatta (10/25) attendance is confirmed, regatta fees will be shared

  • Please send in a written list of 10 names and mailing addresses to whom we can mail a printed photo of youth rowing from this fall

  • November 1 is an all-hands-help work party 9am-12pm at PVRC

  • Winter workout registration is open at www.pvriverfront.org/registration

  • Thank you for supporting PVRC

The Details:

Regatta fees are the cost of sending the crew to away races (regattas) and since attendance varied we are calculating each rower's fees separately. The last race is this Saturday, in Holyoke - schedule and details will be announced soon - and once that is finalized, we'll give you each the amount due for the season's regattas plus any uniforms/tanktops you haven't already paid for. Regatta fees can be paid by check to PVRC, by venmo @pvrc- or by cash brought to practice in an envelope with a label ("Jonah's regatta fees" e.g.). For this season, ONLY those who attended and raced at regattas are charged fees (this is an exception to our normal policy where all rowers pay an equal amount for the team's attendance).

Every group at PVRC does some fundraising to support our organization. Youth rowers send a short letter which PVRC composes, stamps, prints photos to include from the season, and provides a return envelope for those who would like to donate. No amount is too small and each donation gets a thank you from me. Link below to the letter that will be sent. After we mail the paper copies, an email campaign will go out which you will be welcome to forward to your friends. But for now, we just need 10 names and mailing addresses of people who'd like to know about your rowing experience. THE LETTER. Our goal is to raise $20,000 - ambitious, but we like setting high goals! The kids will have a day at practice when they address 10 envelopes (provided), include a photo of their choosing, and give them all to me to mail. Snacks provided. (Note: addressing a letter is a life skill which we find this exercise teaches!) Please send this written list with your rower to practice by Thursday of this week. Put them on labels, if you want to! Everyone participates (extra names & addresses will be available for those who cannot bring in 10).

November 1 is a bittersweet day: we have a big work party, pulling out our docks and boats. It's a heavy lift so the more hands the better. Parents/ siblings/friends looking for volunteer hours are all welcome. We'll do this on Saturday November 1 from 9am to about noon, rain or shine. Dress for the weather. Bring a food item to share, work gloves if you have them, and waterproof boots if you have them. There will be jobs to do that do not require heavy lifting, so all are welcome! No RSVP needed - just come ready to work.

Wintertime is when we build the strength and endurance to create good results on the water in the spring. Registration is open for winter training which starts November 17. It's not all erging - we do weightlifting, yoga, visit the Deerfield Academy indoor rowing tanks, and other fun stuff! see www.pvriverfront.org/registration for details. Email rowingdirector@pvriverfront.org if you're not sure what to sign up for. More winter classes for adults and newcomers will also be posted soon.

Thank you,

Ben Quick
