#1 Register for Indoor Programs

January 03, 2023

Work toward your fitness goals with friends and a coach

Adults and young adults (age 12+) can sign up for a session of weekly coached indoor workouts with variety to keep things moving.

8-week youth sessions begin after school on Wednesday, January 17th for experienced youth rowers and on Friday, January 19th for those new to the sport.

Adults can start any time!

Lifting weights offsite at a state-of-the-art gym and experiencing rowing in an indoor collegiate training facility are just some of the options in the winter program.  Everyone gets to train on PVRC's indoor rowing machines. Winter is a great time to set fitness goals, track your progress with friends and coaches, and enjoy the success of reaching those goals.

#2 Drop In and Check Us out

February 23, 2023

Adults: Monday - Thursday 6pm ($10)

Youth (age 12+): Mon, Wed, Fri 3:45pm (free)

For $10, adults may drop in and join the crew for a coached indoor workout. Students (age 12-18) may drop by to meet the coach and check us out. Whether you are just getting your toes wet with exercise, or already have a workout regime, all are welcome.

#3 We Flex. You Can, Too.

May 28, 2023

Schedule: flexible.

Frozen river: not so much.

PVRC offers coached classes for adults on weeknights (except Friday) 6pm - 8pm and Saturday 7am - 9am. Prefer a weekday lunchtime workout? Join a group of volunteer-led calorie-burners on the rowing machines Tuesdays and Thursdays noon to 1:20 pm. Or, call PVRC for information about 6am weekday workouts. There's an added bonus for daytime participants: The boathouse's view of the (frozen) Connecticut River and North Riverfront Park.

#4 Learning. It Never Freezes

January 01, 2020

Winter is a great time to learn about the boats, the options, the technique, and your boatmates - without the pressure to perform on the water. After the thaw PVRC teaches the on-water skills of rowing and paddling starting in early June with National Learn to Row / Learn to Paddle Day events (free). Monthly weeklong summer programs introduce the basic skills that you need to master before joining an adult team. Whether you are interested in competition or relaxation, you can enjoy rowing and paddling as a lifelong sport. There is no better time than the winter to start the process!

#5 New Year. New You.

January 01, 2020

PVRC helps you accomplish your goals. It's a place to work with a coach to design a plan to work off some holiday indulgence! Whether you train for fitness, fun, or to improve performance at your sport, you can get there on the indoor rowing machine with friends by your side. Then, when the ice is but a distant memory and gray landscapes turn to green, the "new you" will be ready to enjoy the river, riverfront, and warm outdoors.

#6 Coaching is Included

January 01, 2020

Our wonderful coaches set us apart. They provide group and individualized instruction, information, and inspiration to help each participant achieve goals. Drop in to meet them and get a boathouse tour. Warning:  they are a charming bunch, with the goods to back it up.

Come meet our coaches:
Adult drop-in M-Thu 6p,

Youth (age 12+) drop in M,W,F 3:45pm.

#7 The Rowing Machine. Your new best friend.

January 01, 2020

The indoor rowing machine provides an all-body workout--you might even be surprised which muscles it works the most. Winter training includes dynamic stretching, weightlifting, and indoor rowing on our Concept2 Ergometers ("Ergs")--the centerpiece of the program. You'll learn to adjust settings, understand the monitor's data, and to use a heart-rate monitor. You can even prepare for PVRC's own indoor rowing competition, the Rockrimmon "Ergatta," on March 24. Best of all, the rowing machine makes a stronger, lighter you ready for warm weather rowing and paddling in boats that float way better than an "Erg."
