Rowing

Experience the ultimate team sport.  PVRC’s professional coaching staff will teach you and your “crew” the basics of the rowing.  While utilizing our stable rowing equipment participants will learn both styles of rowing, "sweep" (rowing as a team) and “sculling” (rowing solo).   You will learn proper boat handling, rowing safety, and basic terminology as you work together as a team!

Stand Up Paddleboarding  (SUP)

Experience the newest craze in water sports. SUP offers a great core workout and a new way to get out onto the water. Our experienced staff will teach students about the necessary gear and techniques for a wonderful time floating on the CT river.

Biking

We'll hit the trail and explore the riverfront via bike!  Grab one of PVRC’s touring bikes or bring your own as we set off on a 6 mile round trip tour of the Connecticut River Walk and Bikeway.  This uninterrupted stretch of the path runs along Springfield’s riverfront and provides stunning views of the Connecticut River, the Springfield city skyline, and Memorial Bridge.  Bike helmets are required at all times.

Kayaking

Our staff will teach you the basics of this wonderful adventure activity. You'll learn how to choose a boat, appropriate safety gear and accessories to make your experience safe and enjoyable.   Through games and activities you will learn how to safely board your boat, and how to properly paddle. We'll take you on a tour of the Connecticut River teaching you the natural history of the river along the way.

Dragon Boating

Imagine paddling  a canoe with 20 other people in your boat. That's Dragon Boating. A  2000 year old sport, Dragon boating originated in China but is now widely practiced around the world. Our experienced coaches will teach you the basic stroke and commands as you experience the valleys newest sport!

Indoor Activities

Rain never stops us from enjoying the riverfront.  We bring the fun of rowing and paddling inside to PVRC’s 24 indoor rowing machines.  Our coaches and instructors have a blast teaching people how to use these unique machines called “Ergs”. Ergs are used to teach the basic rowing/paddling stroke, to get a great workout or for head to head racing!
